Rudra Abhishek Puja contains Shivling Abhishek with 11 Ingredients/components and reciting of 108 names of Lord Shiva . Rudra is one of the numerous names of Lord Shiva. The Rudra Abhishek Puja is meant to assuage Lord Shiva in the Rudra shape. In this a shivalinga is showered in water which is always poured/spring over it, with backup of the reciting of vedic mantra called the Rudra suktha . It is hailed by every Vedic sacred text as one of the best puja's. Rudrabhishek preparations Before the beginning of Rudrabhishek elaborate preparations need to go. Asanas or seats are prepared for Lord Shiva, Mother Parvati, other gods and goddesses and Navagrahas. The blessings of the Lord are sought before commencing the puja along with worship of Ganesh for the successful completion of the puja. The devotee also chants the sankalp or the determination mentioning why the puja is performed.

The pujas implemented/performed to different gods and all over energies comprise Mother Earth, Ganga Mata, Ganesh,Lord Surya, Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Agni, Lord Brahma and the nine planets in this order. Once the puja and offerings are made to all these deities, the Shivling to be worshipped is placed on the altar with arrangements to collect the water flowing from the image during abhishek.

At the end, special dishes are offered to the lord and arati is performed. The Ganga Jal collected from the abhishek is sprinkled on the devotees and also given for drinking, which is believed to remove all the sins and diseases. Rudram or ‘Om Namashivaya’ is chanted all through during the Rudrabhishek.
