Transgender perform Pind Daan in Varanasi
Amid chants of mantras, the kinnar (transgender) people, led by Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhada Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi performed ‘pind daan’ (last rites) of their ancestors during Pitri Paksha at Pishach Mochan Kund .
Kinnars from various places including New Delhi, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Ujjain, West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh assembled at the mythological pond to perform the rituals. “We have been performing the rituals for last two years for the peace of departed souls,” said Tripathi.
A kinnar has been a neglected individual since birth to death. Even family members are not ready to accept the ashes or perform the last rites. Hence, we decided to perform ‘Tripindi Shradh’ of the dead ones at Pishach Mochan in Varanasi,” said Tripathi.
